Planetary Awards

Awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writing

Submit Your 2015 Nominations

It’s time for book bloggers, podcasters, and booktubers to nominate their favorite science fiction and fantasy books and short stories published in 2015. There are three categories for the 2015 awards:

1) Shorter story (under 40,000 words/160 paperback pages)
2) Traditionally published novel
3) Small press / self-published novel

Nominations must be received by February 14th, 11:59PM US Pacific time.

Here are the steps required to nominate a story (A, B, and C are required. D, E, and F are optional):

A) Establish your credentials. Make a comment to this blog post, with links to three reviews posted in 2015 on your blog, podcast, or booktube channel. If you have a multi-topic podcast/video, please give us time references.

B) Post on your blog (or podcast/booktube channel) nominating a story and explaining why you think it’s the best.

  • You may nominate in all three categories with one post, or you may make three separate posts.
  • You are not required to nominate in all three categories – you may nominate in just one or two.
  • Remember that you only get ONE nomination per category.
  • If your post contains a link to the planetary awards blog, or to this post, then we will re-blog so visitors can view it from our home page.

C) As a REPLY TO YOUR CREDENTIALS COMMENT, post the following:

  • the title and author of the story/stories you are nominating
  • a link to the nomination post at your blog
  • for short stories, the anthology/magazine/web address where the story can be found
  • any personal or professional connection to the author must be disclosed
  • optional: the order of your choices, from part D below

D) If we receive too few nominations in one of our categories, we may combine two (or all three) of our categories, so let us know which of your three nominations you consider #1, #2, and #3. If you do not specify, then your nomination will be your choice for the surviving category.

E) You may change your vote at any time before the deadline. To change your vote, simply repeat steps B and C above, and remember to REPLY TO YOUR CREDENTIALS COMMENT.

F) Spread the word to other book bloggers, podcasters, and booktubers!

Hey, it would be a really great thing if people got behind this. The narrow categories are going to make it almost a coin toss for me. Sceptre of Morgulan was so freaking good, but Torchship is really great, too, and has the added bonus for new readers of not being the third book in a series. If I could split them off into their own little genre ghettos, I’d say Sceptre for best Fantasy and Torchship for best sci-fi, but now I have to choose!

Sure would love to see one of my books nominated (Volume III came out in 2015…. hint, hint). The Planetary Awards especially include indies/self-published authors’ sci-fi! Share and nominate (if you’re eligible to do so).

Thanks for doing this! Reblogged on Sally Ember, Ed.d. (sallyember.com/blog) and begged for someone to nominate Volume III of “The Spanners Series,” released in December, 2015 (shamelessly).

    Best to you all!
